Introduction
We are volunteering to video tape Bay Area Open Studios Artists Talks and make them available over the internet on Youtube. Read our Introduction to the project and see our proposal.

• We would be glad to give a Presentation to your Staff and Board Of Directors about the project.
• See Our TAOLB Project   We interviewed over 50 artists from The Art of Living Black Art (TAOLB) Exhibit and Open Studios and placed 160+ videos and 8 hours of material on Youtube.

For Artists

•  Preparing for the Video Taping of "Artist Talks"
  • See 2006 and 2007 TAOLB, and AATS Artist Talks for example talks.
  • Sign a release allowing us to tape you and place the video on Youtube. (we'll hand it out at the taping)
  • Write name in large letters the way you want to be identified on the video on a sheet of paper and hand it to me before being taped. I'll hold it up to the camera to identify you on the tape.
  • Generally, artists talk for up to 3 minutes.
  • Where do I look, at the interviewer or video camera? Generally during an interview you should ignore the camera and talk to the interviewer or the assembled audience. However, now-a-days with internet video, people talk directly to the camera. So, it's up to you. First look at internet video and the various ways of talking and decide where you want to look.  The best is probably to look where you feel most comfortable.
  • What to talk about?
    • Talk about anything that you would like to convey to the public. What are you passionate about?
    • your Artist Statement
    • your art in general. etc.
    • what got you started in art?
    • the art piece you brought.
      • How did you get the idea or inspiration for it?
      • How did the inspiration turn into a work of art?

FAQ

The thumbnail is not the most flattering picture of me. My eyes are closed.
A. YouTube selects a frame from around the middle of the video clip, so it's difficult to control which image is used for the Thumbnail.

The YouTube video quality is not that great. 
A. There are many online video sharing services on the internet and many allow for better quality of video.  YouTube is however, the largest and most popular service. They have lower quality of video because of the lower bite rates they use, on the other hand,  they have more viewers as well as better services for organizing and managing the videos. They were also purchased by Google, so you know they will be around for a long time and will continue to improve their services. So using Youtube is a tradeoff with some quality of the image.

The video stops and starts when I try to play it. I have a slow or dialup internet connection.
A. This is probably caused by a slow internet connection and the video is not downloading fast enough. Once you click on the clip to play, hit the pause button. Then wait while the video downloads. You can see the red line slowly fill in. Wait until the clips is totally downloaded before playing it. This may take some time on a slow connection.
