Meeting  11/18/01

Group mind mapping and listening to music that inspires us.

At this meeting we created a group mind map.  Mind Mapping, in a group of six, taking off from INSPIRATION. Very creative and unpredictable spinning of ideas, illustrations, concepts creativity (push-pull), feelings, other responses, (attitude, fun, zaniness). Joan kept getting inspired to dance.

Group Mind Mapping

Ida - Group mind mapping is particularly freeing. Was somehow able to release stored energy onto the paper. Much needed release.

Perhaps we can do something similar on Dec. 16th and perhaps have each of us write down/draw what it is that we appreciate about our group as a whole and/or as individuals.

Music is great.

Edwin -

First I thought of creativity and a giving birth. Push, push, the effort.

But then a child that demands to be feed.

The "Now", i turned into a clock with a squirrel running in it.

"Provocative" reminded me of Daffy duck. Harry had brought a tape of Daffy duck that was a riot to listen to.

The bottle of inspiration formula, I wondered where it came from. where in the world.

The word  "Wheeee" I wanted to give a form, make an image. I created a slide with some figures sliding down. They're the ones saying "wheeeee"!

"Food", I added a decision, Coke or the Apple, this or that.

Turning down timer into inspiration.

"On-off"  I wanted to see an actual on/off switch.. I tried to draw one but it didn't work out well.

Joan - Starting the process was a little less freeing since I wanted to come up with a brilliant  idea and one was not coming. I was also connect with the music. Once I began putting pen to paper my absorption  increased and out came an idea. Suddenly I became aware that I was in a solitary pursuit and decided to bring in all the available talents - Wheee as Sandra would say!

Harry - Mind Mapping, in a group of six, taking off from INSPIRATION. Very creative and unpredictable spinning of ideas, illustrations, concepts creativity (push-pull), feelings, other responses, (attitude, fun, zaniness)

I found myself reacting and/or responding to other peoples wit, lyricism, energy, ideas, not so much characterizing what I myself think of inspiration or what I believe it to be.

Music - For this meeting, everyone brought some music that inspired them. We sat back and listened and some of us drew pictures of what  came to mind.

Gary - The power of conscious choice - (no day with a line) as if inspiration lives behind a huge wooden double door bound with massive iron hardware, which is deliberately flung open - not timidly knocked upon or endlessly searched for. This is about seizing real power - and making use of the day. then, when the door is opened, unknown worlds await, pouring forth profusely. a powerful choice may lead to any kind of world - not necessarily loud or dramatic. but the choice itself can be a bit dramatic, like flinging open the shutters to let light, or air.

Edwin: There are songs that inspire me but I do not collect them. It's something I think I should do.

I read some writings by Beethoven where he says "no day with a line" and "I only let my Muse rest so that she may work another day". I then played some of his music. Beethoven - First movement from Symphony No. 5

Also, I did a search on the internet for music that has the word Inspiration in the title. Most of this music deals with inspiration gained from a romantic relationship.

Joan - She played some music made by friends of hers.

Harry - He brought 3 pieces of music.
