7-7-02, Hike up to Inspiration Point at Mount Tamalpias and Picnic
| Inspiration and Nature.
Many people find inspiration by going to nature. At this meeting we hiked to the top of
Mt. Tamalpias to explore our relationship with nature and how it can inspire
us.
We hiked to Inspiration Point where we had our picnic and discussed some quotes on Inspiration and Nature. We then created sign language signs for what inspiration looks like to each of us. We started with the sign from American Sign Language (ASL). |
We also shot a video of the hike and Edwin edited it. Click on the image to play a short 1.1 MS media player file. The first sign is the sign for "inspire" in ASL. |

Some of the Quotes we Discussed
Evaluation of Meeting
Hi Everyone,
As we drove home we realized something was missing. We did not take a few moments to check in on how we all felt or reactions to the days activity. Better late than never! If you would like to share a comment please write. joan-----------------------------------
My thoughts on the July 7 meeting.
I enjoyed the meeting. It was good to do something different and take a hike instead of only working in a room. Everyone found the carpool meeting location ok, and thanks to Gary, we could all carpool together in his van.
The conversations on the drive up to the top of Mt Tamalpias were fun.
The hike seemed to be a good distance. It was enough to get a bit of a workout but not too strenuous. Having the destination of Inspiration Point to hike to, for a goal oriented person like myself, was fun.
Thanks to everyone for bring delicious food.
I find having time to talk about and share our experiences of the week and different things we are going through helps me a lot.
I would like to see how we can document our insights more. Document so that we can share the insights with others, perhaps use them in in our final exhibition. Perhaps doing more writing, after reading the quotes we could have written down our comments and then read them. Perhaps they could have been tape recorded and transcribed? Transcription is however time consuming.
A written closing could be good as well.
All in all I think the hike works well and I look forward to the next hike to inspiration point in Tilden park. Edwin-----------------------------------
My comments are a response to a question we discussed during our hike.
Is an "Inspiration Point" necessarily inspiring?
Yes, with an insightful facilitator, good company, interesting and enjoyable activities, tasteful refreshments, pleasant weather, an "Inspiration Point" was a lovely place to visit and an excellent way to spend a Sunday!Joan

I had great fun. admire everyone's courage, follow-through and playfulness in the sign language activity. at first i was somewhat shy but then i looked around and everyone was taking the activity to heart. it looked like something out of a fellini film. ida
Insightful comments for the trip"
Sandra said, "Sometimes when you get to inspiration point you find out you want to be somewhere else."
"I get inspired by young people, not so much by nature." Ida
"I get inspired by doing something in nature, like fishing or gold panning. Somehow being involved with it." Edwin

Carpooling: There is a meeting place for carpooling at the Manzanita Park & Ride
just off Highway 101 at the Stinson Beach Highway 1 exit. The Park
and Ride lot is just under the freeway. Meet immediately to the right upon
entering.
You can contact us Sunday by cell phone 510 685-2621 if you need
directions, etc. the meeting point is the intersection of 101
and highway 1.
About the name of the exit - unfortunately it always escapes me. Look for "Stinson Beach", Shoreline Hwy", or "Hwy 1". The exit is north of the Sausalito exit and south of the Tiburon Blvd exit. For Ida (coming from south) - follow the exit as it goes under the freeway, then turn left immediately after the freeway into the Manzanita parking lot, parts of which are actually under the freeway. gary
